I have had this skirt since my very first thrift store run, when I started this blog. So, yeah, a couple years now. I thought the pattern was so cute when I bought it…just never had that “aha!” on a design that worked with the material.
It has a great color scheme – nice muted, earthy tones – with a fun, almost-patchwork pattern. I thought it would work well as a small hobo-style purse (like the one I made for my mom), since it’s a random print and didn’t need to “match up” along the front and back seams. I grabbed some newspaper and got to work on my design.

I had plenty of skirt to do both the inside and outside of the same material – no waste here!
After a few zips on the trusty sewing machine… a cute boho purse:
And because this is a pretty open style purse, I thought it could use some closure. I sought advice from my assistant.
And we finally came to a decision. The brown one, on top of that other brown one! (Yes, I know they’re all brown, haha)
